Phenom X4 build - OC - Help

Okay, put together a new rig recently and now I'm trying to go through and Oc it. I've oc'd thunderbirds back in the day and other such systems but it's been awhile and things have changed.

My specs are:
Phenom X4 940 Deneb 3.0ghz 125w black edition
Corsair 750 wattTX
MSI R4890
Biostar TA790GXB
OCZ Reaper HPC 8 gig ddr 1066
OCZ Vendetta 92mm cpu cooler

I've had it at 3.3ghz running fine with just an easy multiplier up. What steps should I take - what first - multi then fsb? What should I expect? What are max temps and max voltages for all components (ram, cpu, vid) And what programs are being used now to monitor health/temperatures and stress test?

Sorry for being a newbie again, but within a few years you get left behind quickly. Thanks for the help.
 
just ignore the FSB for right now and use the multiplier and voltage to overclock..

you should be able to do 3.5-3.6ghz @ 1.44-1.45v but really depends on the processor and your cooling.. the cooler you can get it to run the lower the voltage has to be to hit a specific clock speed..

for example my pos big typhoon heatsink on my 940 requires me to use 1.465v to hit 3.5ghz.. using my friends TRUE i was able to hit 3.6ghz @ 1.44v with no issues.. due to this board not officially supporting this processor nor having the PWM/mosfets to support the required voltage ive personally limited my self to 1.465v so i dont blow it up..

the phenom II's are rated at 1.55v from AMD.. you should be able to hit 3.8ghz within the 1.55v limit.. the only thing you need to worry about is cooling.. the max temp for this processor is 69C the thermal limits at 62C.. once you exceed 62C it should start downclocking the processor automaticly but it depends on the motherboard.. since my board like i said doesnt officially support the 940 it will go all the way to 69C and then shut off..

use coretemp to monitor the CPU temps.. the phenom II's only has 1 temp sensor.. use OCCT, p95 or intel burn test to stress the cpu..

you really dont need to play with the FSB unless you want to raise the NB/HT speeds.. by default they are 1800mhz but i know the 940 can go much higher then that.. so you would need to use the FSB to increase those clocks.. just remember the FSB effects your ram timing as well.
 
So a 3.3ghz at stock voltage is nothing to sneeze at. I'll start playing with the voltage and give it some more on the multi.
