Now that the quad-core opterons are upon us, I haven't seen too much info on the actual release date of Phenom X4's and X2's, other than the Triple Core stuff coming out next year. Has anyone seen anything reliable in regards to pricing and an estimated release date? November maybe?

its inexcusable theres little to no info available, and there are less than a handful of am2+ boards out. (yes, I know thats not strictly AMDs fault, but somehow, somewhere along the line they could have changed this).
As much as I like amd, I've already decided my next machine is a 45nm core 2 duo 3ghz. The way amd slaughtered the 939 market shows what they think of their consumer base.

acctually, since most of the AMD subforum users seem to be Intel fanboys, only browsing this forum to vent their love for Intel, and their hate for AMD, then you prolly just opened up at least the next 2 pages for bullshit banter about how AMDS days are numbered, and how these are going to be buggy, and how intels yorkfield ect ect are going to kick amds ass into the next world.

Now that Ive said all that for you guys, lets get some positive speculation going.

Excellent, people are quoting the Inq. :D Then you'll enjoy this.
The point isn't "quoting the Inq," it is that they posted AMD's own recent slide that shows Phenom MIA for 2007.

This is actually not the first time it has been hinted that AMD is pushing Phenom to 2008. Back in July, motherboard manufacturers were saying the same thing. The difference now is that AMD's own documents don't mention Phenom this year either.

Digitimes says RV670 comes on Nov. 19th. With RD790 expected in the middle of October, I might launch my new high end desktop quadcore along with my new high end GPU...;)

My bad, just saw Choppyferrari's post....yeah, like he said...:D

Well since AMD has been dead in the water releasing nothing innovative in a year and a half and still just cutting costs of AM2s and upping their clock speeds to seem like a good value you can't be surprised some AMD fans have switched. Look how dead the AMD forum is in gerneral compared to Intels over the past year. I love AMD but I'm sure as hell not going to buy an upgraded 939 than runs DDR2 thanks. A little competition is good maybe all this will teach AMD something. Until then I'll stick with my cheapy Intel system but I've seen a lot of people switch and are harsh on AMD for such reasons and many others. You can't expect everyone too just keep on cheering for AMD when they aren't really doing anything so I think your being just as ignorant as the Intel fanboys who hang out in here. This is really funny especially when AMDs were kicking ass couple years ago and AMD fanboys were giving the Intel guys crap.

ok i agree in the whole with this but. ... Amd have just relest the 2900pro that in the UK at least is 20% cheaper and 20% faster (early reviews) than the 8800gts.

but if you take out the overclock factor AMD still has the best bang for buck at the low to high medium

this is one that does piss me off a little, so amd changed thier socket! and intel didnt but 775 does'nt mean compatibility with c2d! where as AMD does have "a what you see is what you get" when it comes to sockets. (AM2+ not included)

your right tho, a little competion is good but, lets not lose site of the fact that a monopoly is good for no one bar the monopoly owner. i will always buy amd as long as they offer me underdog status. i will also go for the uglyist girl in the pub cuz i know ive got a chance

I was about to post just the above. And when motherboard makers stated that they would not be ramping up boards to support Phenom right way because it wouldnt be out in large enough numbers this fall,AMD of course denied that rumour :D

Now this...slide is out,and it looks as though the mobo reps in Taiwan were telling the truth over the summer. The only thing AMD is going to be 'launching soon' is more chip pricing cuts on Monday.Which seems insane,'Yes,lets drive profits further into the toilet
and continue to wage a war against an enemy we have no hope in hell of winning'.

Yeah, but why doesn't that slide show the HD 2950pro/xt???

It's pretty obvious that AMD purposely chose to keep Phenom and the 2950 off that roadmap. Even the Inquirer questions "who called this a Q4 2007 update?"

To think that AMD wouldn't release either of these two cash cows this year seems very far fetched.

Looking at that slide again it says, "45 Watt Products" on the bottom...

What the hell does that mean?! The 6400+ and 2900xt running at 45 watts?! This slide is soo dubious. Sure, the tawainese mobo makers may have been right about a delay, but that was back in the early summer... we already have barcelona, where's the phony version?

I think Amd is going for the "WHOA THIS WAS TOTALLY UNEXPECTED, CHECK OUT HOW IT WHOOPS ASS" Factor.

When everyone is saying you only have one shot left.... you dont fire until you see the whites of their eyes.

Sorta of a Shock and Awe campaign ? :)

Haha, kind of like the HD 2900XT?? Sigh.
I doubt the Phenom is going to be that great in comparison to whatever Intel comes out with, but I got a great deal for a 3800x2 that was able to to overclock to 3.1ghz... that should last me a while until the AM2+ processors start to get replaced by the AM3 processors.. at which time I'll pick up a decent performing quad core at a decent price (hopefully) and not even have to change my mobo :D
<3 forward compatibility, even if the processor isnt 'top of the line'

Lol yea. wouldnt you, if you were backed into a wall though?

Go read the 5th post. I already said this for you.

I'll say this,if the BB 2.6 hits 100 bucks, that damn good value for the money. That would have me reccomending AMD again bigtime.I get your meaning, but hope that isnt the case here, looks like it though.

Excuse me for expressing my opinion. And I'll have you know, I'm hardly an 'Intel Fanboy'
I think it would be kind of hard for you to pin that label on me since I haven't owned an intel processor since the PII days.

You want 'positive speculation'?

ZOMGWTFBBQ PHENOM IS GOING TO PWN LOL CANT WAIT I HAVE MY PENIS OUT

I'm on a socket 939 x2 3800. I'm far from anyones "fan boy", but I am not stupid and don't see amd as having done anything worthwhile in some time. The upcoming price cuts might actually put the current processors at the pricing structure they should have been at for some time..which is a start I suppose.

I totally agree. Fudo seems to think that Phenom will make a "trailblazing" debut catching Intel with their pants down with their quad core release before the end of the year, launching at a competitive 2.8 - 3GHz. Same with RV670. AMD already announced that they will have TSMC produce a million and a half of these GPUs by next month. Why else would you ramp up your production so much if you weren't going to launch right away? A high-end performing part for a mainstream price? Where do I sign up? Bummer I went and bought an SLI motherboard though.

i will always buy amd as long as they offer me underdog status.

Ditto. I won't buy in to Intel's monopoly of the market. AMD has some great tech (even though they are dangerously late about bringing it out) and I will always vote with my dollar on who I think is better. Paul Otellini and Kicking Pat can go suck eggs.

i will also go for the uglyist girl in the pub cuz i know ive got a chance

ROFLMAO :D

Inq is certainly the authoritative source on AMD :p This reminds me:

AMD is Doomed!!

The Fud is actually more often right than not compared to the Inq. This is just a general observation, not a specific comment on this particular piece of news.

I guess even you can't trust a thing AMD tells the public. :D Thanks for confirming the obvious.

The million dollar question is how old is that roadmap? Around Q2/Q3 AMD was saying that the Phenom products wouldn't hit the shelves until Q1 2008. Things can change in this industry at the snap of a finger, especially since we've all been hearing that the B2 stepping is better than the engineers at AMD thought, and have been making them at full tilt since around the start of Q3.

Also why would AMD drop their prices on current CPUs again next Monday if something big wasn't around the corner? Only to take bigger losses? I really don't think that's the case. IMHO they're trying to clear the channel of all the existing Athlon 64 X2 parts to make way for Phenom's debut two months early, and their bottom line needs it more than ever.

AMD has been extremely tight-lipped as of late. It's about time they pull a rabbit out of their collective ass. :)

I second the notion from morfinx that Fudo is right more often than not.

sorry if this is a silly question, but who is this fudo you guys keep refering to. Do you mean Fuad? Cause I thought he left the inq.

What do you mean? Are you referring to the RV670 or Phenom? The HD2950 will be released mid-Nov if the rumors bear out.

Actually r600 syndrome
Before the release of 2900 everyone held the r600 in a high horse with all the specs that where released (512 bit memory 1 GB DDR4 or so, and shit) and everyone said dont buy 8800GTX wait for the r600 -.-

Anyway, i want some benchies on the Phenom... im on Socket 754 now and i hope AMD keeps me loyal, but right now i dont see that happening

u think thats bad? im still on socket A and phenom needs to come out so i can build another rig. im dieing here

Why wait? An AM2 board should be upgradable to Phenom and you can get a pretty fast X2 processor cheap right now. Even the 45W dual core BE-2350 is cheap.

It's October already. There's no reason to build now. If you wait a month, Penryn and supposedly Phenom will be out on the market, and you could choose the best of the two at a competitive price.

at this point AMD is looking at price cuts to minimize losses. if they are still in business against a company as large as Intel its got to say something about them. i believe they are trying not to butcher another launch. they want to release a far superior product, hense the wait. think about other releases in the computer industry that kept getting delayed but made big sales(HL2 comes to mind). even if AMD's new chips are not superior, they will make sure they are the bigger bang for the buck. if you know anything about economics then you will see what AMD is doing.

i have mostly used Intel over the years. but if you look at the price per performance aspect, it is very difficult to beat AMD.

i built my AXP system with news of A64 coming out, in the end i should have waited since performance was faster on the A64. so im going ahead and waiting for quad core barcy since it is faster than current AMD offerings. i want to be on the begining of the product cycle rather than the end like i have been with the last 2 systems in my sig

Given what you just posted what do you think of Anands recent outlook on the low end ?
