Phenom II x2 560 vs. 555

Hey guys,

Sent in my Phenom II x2 555 BE under warranty last week, and just got an email from AMD saying they just shipped a 560. Is there any difference between the two besides the 100mhz bump? Just want to know out of curiosity.

Your old CPU was most likely a C2 revision and the 560 is probably the newer C3 but you need to wait and see. The C2 has a GI at the end of the long part number on the CPU itself and the C3 has GM.
When you get the new one see if you got lucky and can unlock cores or not. C3 typically ran a bit cooler and overclocked better.

I did some more checking and looks like I was wrong. The 555 and 560 should both be C3.

The new 560 you get may unlock cores though so if you have a board that can unlock cores give it a shot.

Yeah the 555 is C3 also. The 560 might get you a little more headroomin overoclocking but iI doubt it's much. The 555's would routinely hit 4.0 so 4.2 would be what I'd expect at most. More than likely though, it won't be any different at all.

Thanks for the help guys, I am going to see what I can do with it when it arrives. My motherboard allows for core unlocks, so maybe I will get a bit lucky.
