Phenom 2 965 is out

Cyrix 486 DX CPU's were certainly inferior in the integer department, slightly superior in the floating point department (FasMath was actually a good creation).

AMD 486 CPU's were essentially clones of the Intel ones (with the exception of the DX4 CPU's), and performed identically to their Intel counterparts.

IBM 486 CPU's were also Intel clones (licensed, no lawsuits), and performed identically to Intel ones, but they did have a neat chip, called the Blue Lightning (the ones based on the true 486 DX), which was superior to the Intel ones.

Not quite but that's going completely off topic. The AMD CPUs were not the same performance as their Intel counterparts. I've had several and on the same board, the Intel 486 DX2 66 was faster than the AMD one. I remember doing these tests vividly. One difference is that Intel CPUs of the day had write through cache while AMD used write back cache. As for the Blue Lightning, I don't recall them being faster than their Intel counterparts. In fact as I recall they were copies of the Cyrix CPUs. Then again I may be thinking of the IBM/Cyrix 6x86 series of CPUs.

I actually have a 486 Blue Lightning CPU lying around. I do not have a motherboard for it though.

Anyway, back on topic.

might wait till die shrink to get the heat down but then again this might keep the house warm and toasty in the winter months to come.:D

FYI i7's and C2Q's put out about the same wattage, its not like amd's quad cores are the only ones that use lots of power. Its a quad core thing =)
