If you need a low profile CPU cooler, head on over to Modders Inc. and check out this review of the Phanteks PH-TC12LS.

Placed in confined spaces, a compact cooler has to rise to the occasion. Although hopefully not too much as height restrictions also apply. This is why the C-type heatpipe design is popularly used for CPU coolers destined for small-form factor enclosures. This type of cooler has its own set of design issues it must overcome to be a viable solution

Not bad! It's too bad how close it sits to the memory, with the PCIe clearance issues.

This is actually the HTPC cooler I've been looking at. I have the NH-L9i which in all reviews measures as the quietest CPU cooler. However Noctua doesn't actually use very quiet fans, but just runs them at low rpm. Many other brands at the same rpm can actually achieve lower noise levels, and Noctua fans have a vibration-induced sound signature that sounds like "clicking" at low rpms. Even though the measured sound levels is very low compared to your typical fan, the sound signature is very aggravating; I would compare it to listening to crickets at low decibel levels, and this is with the HTPC (fanless save for the NH-L9) on a rack about 20 feet away, I can hear it quiet audibly above the ambient sound level of all the other equipment in the room (receivers, amps, TV, subwoofer, etc).
