Hi, All

In my home setup I have an PFsense firewall wich is doing all the routing right now, but right now my net speed is maxing out about 500mbit, i my think it's the pfsense hardware, but its an 1500Mhz C7 VIA with 2Gb ram, I just bought two new switchs, HP-1910-24g and a HP 5500-24G they can do some layer 3 routing, will my speed get a bumb up when the switch is doing some of the vlan routing. ?

I assume you mean pfsense is presently doing your inter-vlan routing yes?

I found similar results speed wise, its the pci bus that is limiting speed I believe. Had to change to a i3 to get pci-express in a low power mini-itx package which is probably overkill but it is good for gigabit wirespeed routing.

well I have pci-e port with a intel PT dual port, but i'm not using that for my lan vlans right now, but my pfsense is doing a lot of natting and vpn, i hope offloading the vlan routing to the switces will help.

I will move my lan vlans to the Intel PT card and have some LCAP trunk with to port to the switch.

you can overkill when it come's to your home network :)
