Petras basic lite wc solution - any good?

Anyone have any insight on this kit? Anyone used it, know someone who has, etc?

I am currently using a si-120 and have my 3800+ x2 at 2.5 @ 1.41 and doesnt go above 55c under load, think I will be able to retain that clock with this basic kit? I am not looking to really go any higher unless temps do drop nicely and I have room to move up some more.

I am aiming to iliminate a fan in my case (the si's fan), and I have wanted to dable with water for years now and now that Ive stashed away some cash I want to go for it.

I can peice together a kit on petras for nearly the same price but with a TDX block instead -- is the TDX worth it?

That's a really good kit. It'll let you run your radiator fan quieter than the fan on your HSF for sure.

Petras are some of the best kits IMO. If you were going to go the custom route:

TDX 1/2"
DD D5 Pump (or Swiftech MCP655)
Masterkleer Tubing 7/16"
Tline
BIP 120 or 240 1/2"
2x Yate Loon fans for 4$ ea. on Jab-Tech.
 
Petra's Lite kit is the only one that I have any reservations about. It's because the pump is just plain weak. Thing is, at regular prices, you can't do a lot better at that price point so it's not really a bad deal. (Better pumps all start around $70, which you can't usually fit into a $135-$150 kit.)

Fortunately right now, the Swiftech 120mm kit is on sale for $150 at svc. It's not really a fair comparison, as the Swifty kit has a regular price that's a good deal higher than Petra's kit. But the plain fact is that today, the best value in the ~$150 price range is not from Petra. However, Petra's a great guy and backs his product up and has a very good rep for quality support.
 
The pump is weak? I thought the pump was fine to handle a single cpu loop.. I don't plan on adding anything else into the loop..

edit: I'd love to go with a dual rad, but I want to make this totally internal.

and I dont want to drop money on a rad box heh
 
That kit is fine for just a cpu loop, but if you ever decided to expand it, you'll find the pump and the rad lacking. But if you're absolutely not going that route, it should be fine.

The pump is weak, but with that block, it'll do the job. However, if you have the space, $35 dollars more for an AQX 50Z would be a worthwhile upgrade.
 
Thanks for the replies guys -- as I said I won't be expanding the loop at all.

I've got a silent 7600gt that does me just fine -- I rarely play games, and the games that I ever will be playing anytime soon (AO!) require nothing more than 9800pro speeds.

I also plan to stick with my 3800+ for _atleast_ another year, if not two, so this kit seems to be just dandy for me.

for $40 get a nother Mag pump and run them in series... Performance does it on plently of cases...

i know its not as good as 2 DCCs but it is half the price. a 2x120 would be a better choice but you can add another 120mm rad later...
 
Well, I bit. I'll post pics whenever I get the kit and get around to installing it :)
 
Woot got my kit today and I am now in the process of flushing the radiator and block with distilled water, then letting both take a nice vinegar bath :cool:

There should be no problem with the acrylic or whatever material top is on the aquaxtreme block and vinegar, correct? It's 5% white distilled vinegar. I just filled the block up and let it sit for a while.

hmm, ill throw some updates as it comes out.

While I don't *think* that it would be an issue, I'd just suggest disassembling the block and only soaking the copper base in the vinegar.

To tell you the truth I'm kind of weary about taking this block apart ;\

I'll try it out this way. When I'm done building the loop if I have gunk problems I'll take it apart and just pop the block open and reclean it again the right way.

edit: worked fine. Kit is great, cept for the pump, but Petra is the absolute man and is taking care of it. Woot.
