Pesky history items

for some reason, I have things like stuck in my history bar, I've cleared the history and the temp internet files and all. anyone know how to completely clear that out?

open start menu, right click, go to properties, go to customize, click clear list..

i had some stuff that wouldn't go away. I actually formatted/reinstalled windows.

I notice that if you have saved favorites, those will stay in the history, and come up depending on what letter you type in the address bar. Could be a saved forms/passwords thing?
