Persistant Problem...

Don't know where to post this, so I guess this is the best spot, as it *could* possibly deal with anything.

Anyways, Last night I was on the internet surfing around, and accidentally hit the power strip off button with my toe, and thus my other computer shut off. Well, when I turned it back on, to my surprise, there wasn't internet. Nothing at all. So I went and checked my router/modem, and everything seemed fine, so I went back, no internet. I repeat this about 3 or 4 times before I decide to give up. Anyways, fast forward to today, I turn on my comp expecting for the internet to work, but obviously it isn't.

Long Story short, I got angry, couldn't fix it by reinstalling all the network clients and protocols, couldn't fix it with a Winsock fix, and a virus/adware/spyware scans failed to solve my problem. So I formatted C:\ drive, and reinstalled windows XP. Well son of a bitch, it still doesn't work. So I go to my modem/router, move the ethernet cable going to my comp to all the other cable slots, and nothing works (but yet this comp works, and i switched slots.) And now whenever I start up the computer (the one in my sig), It just tells me that the cable has been unplugged (which I checked several times, and unplugged, then plugged it back in and stuff), and nothing seems to fix it.

Cliff Notes for the Lazy:
- Accidentally turn of power strip for comp
- Turn comp back on, internet doesn't work.
- Check modem/router several times, still doesn't work.
- Turn off comp for night, and turn it on in the morning but still no internet.
- Run adware/spyware/virus scans, Winsock Fix, and reinstalled all the clients/protocols etc...
- Format C:\ and reinstall Windows XP
- Internet still doesn't work, so i plug my ethernet cable into all the different slots on my router, none work (but yet this computer still works... in ALL of them-- go figure.)
- Comp just says "Network Cable Unplugged", but I know its not, and I have checked several times.

Holy Crap thats long, even the cliff notes are long

Any Ideas on what to do? Thanks guys...

Did you try it direct without the router? Different cables? The connection repair option?

Thanks for all the Ideas, but throught the process of elimation, I found out it is the Cable going up to my room from the router. Damn. 80 Feet of cable to be re-wired through the floor, and then up to my room. Argh.

Oh man. That's no good, although it's prolly a lot cheaper than the cost of fixing other things it could have been.


Hell, at home my parents' computer used to be in the basement, and so dad and I fished network from the basement, up through the clothes chute and into the attic above the upstairs bedrooms, and then across the beams and down through the wall into a homeade socket in my room.

Then this past summer mom bought a huge custom computer desk that spans two walls and a corner and put it in one of my brothers' old rooms across from mine. Dad and I had to fish the coax cable up from the basement and into the attic in the same fashion, but this time we had to drill another hole in the other room's wall. Unfortunately, the wall was right at the edge of where this part of the roof covered. Man that took a long time. We took turns being in the attic and in the room trying to figure out on which side of the stud the fish tape was knocking around.

Dad managed to slip off a beam and partially crack the ceiling above the upstairs hallway. Mom wasn't too happy about that
