I have a AMD 2200+ and it runs a 55c ...not on load O_O and im wondering, 1 How to cool it better(has SLK-800), 2 what is the temp threshold for a AMD? any help would be nice.
 
i'd say that you didnt put the heatsink on correctly. try re applying it, this time use some artic silver (your choice, but i like ceramique) to further lower the temps. Also try lapping if you want the extra 1 - 3c
 
its already got AS3 on there and its been at like 48C before its weird ever since i moved rooms its all janked up....any other ideas of getting rid of heat?
 
possibly moved when you were moving your computer? I dunno...
Is the room hotter? was the computer near an external wall before?
 
well lets see it was in the basement and i know that has something to do with it and this rooms door is closed but is there a way to get the air out of the room without opening the door? and also what temp do AMD's burn up at/damage?

ok thank you for the damage/burn question but how do i get this "shit" to drop in temp....
 
Take that heatsink off, take the CPU off. Look at your HS. Is it scratched? Is it marred? If so, take some sanding paper and lap that sucker. Next, check your CPU core. Is it scratched? Or is it still a mirror finish? If it is, you can put it back on the board.

Next, go to the arctic silver website and learn to apply the goo correctly.

Put that shit back together. Let the paste do it's thing, and in a few days you should have a lower running temp.

BTW, is your chip a TBred B, or a Palomino?

Also, are you using an SLK 800A, or 800U? If you're using the U, I suggest getting some little plastic or whatever washers. I have some motherboard thingies (they're red circles, used to protect the motherboard from the screws) inbetween the bottom of the little springs on the neat screws and the 'deck' of the hold down on the Heatsink itself. I've got a 2500+ at 2.3 ghz and it's running at 50c load. (Week 17 chip, 1.95v).
 
its a Tbred and its the early model of the SLK800 like the 2 year ago one O_O but thats all i know and when i applied it nothing was scratched or anything like that this is like a long time running proc so i dont know whats kicked into it O_O is there a form of ducting i could do?
 
Does it clip onto the side of the socket, or do you have to use 4 mounting holes on your motherboard?

There is, but with the unique mounting system on this heatsink, it wouldn't be easy. :p Unless you used a seperate mounting system. Basically, the easiest way to do a ducting mod would be to take 2 80 mm fans, remove the 'fan' part of one fan (so it's just the 8 mounting holes, and the outer ring), and put them to gether. Basically, it'll give you space between the bottom of your fan and the top of the heatsink. But since the clips on the heatsink clip onto the top of the fan itself, this might be impossible for this heatsink.
 
i would say temp threshold is about 75C to 80C. mine got to 75C and still works. dont leave it there though.
