Perhaps a stupid question, but.....

nope it doesn't matter, chipset's have nothing to do with it, only thing that matters is that AMD only supports crossfire, vs nvidia supporting SLI only and intel supporting both. its not like AMD limits nvidia performance or nvidia limits AMD performance when you put the card on either board. if that happened there would be a whole hell of a lot of lawsuits being thrown around by consumers and companies.
 
Nope, they just offer a complete solution ranging from mobo, cpu, and aftermarket graphic cards. Only AMD can make that claim.
 
Look at it this way...............

Intel makes/sells a shit load more CPUs and MB chipsets than AMD.
If AMD limited their GPUs to their own platforms, their discrete GPU sales would be pretty low.

The only "exclusive" to AMD is Crossfire, just as SLi utilizes only nvidia GPUs.......that said, an AMD based MB can certainly use nvidia products and run SLi......just as an Intel based MB can support Crossfire.
 
I remember seeing a benchmark a year or two ago that shows Nvidia card performing better on AMD Chipsets, and ATI Video cards performing better on Intel chipsets.

Makes sense no...But I remember that one...Might of been Anandtech

actually I remember that as well, but it was a case of SLI scaling better on a AMD CPU if I remember right. kinda of embarrassing for all concerned.


to the OP, bottom line is beyond the ability to run SLI or crossfire it doesn't matter. Now crossfire does scale better on an intel cpu but for a single card there isn't much difference.

Because nvidia chipsets were absolutely terrible.
