Hello [H]

Question is regarding Dawn of war 2. I installed via steam yesterday. The game seems fun and I enjoy it, but I'm having some odd performance. I seem to average 50-100 fps, but any time there is a large amount of action it seems to stutter to 4fps and then back to being fine. It gets progressively worse in last stand with the waves.

My machine should be up to the task....Amd 970, 890fx board, 8gb, 6870. Most people with lesser systems I'v talked to run in ultra with no issues. If I put everything to low, the game is atleast playable but the issue still exists.

Any ideas? Video drivers and dx is all up to date. Temperatures are all fine. I may try updating mainboard drivers and windows for shits and giggles. Any help would be appreciated.

The game benefits from an overclocked CPU, but I've read that this was a problem anyway...

http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?258837-DoW-2-fps-drops
and from that thread, the following thread:
http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?258802-Problem-with-lags-in-DoW2-Retribution - 4th post claims sound issue is causing the problem...

Quote from 1st thread: "I got an I7-2600 k and a Geforce 570 GTX Sonic Platinum, and yes guys, I am observing the same thing...I think it is a software issue."

They complain about these lag issues during specific effects and terrain deformations.

I haven't played Retribution yet (though I do own it), but I remember a similar lag issue from the original DOW2. I assumed it was my system at the time...

Every time I played Last Stand mode in DOW2 there was always tons of lag and terrible performance. Single player was always great. Regular multiplayer was usually good.

If you're playing multiplayer, it could be caused by someone else having a shit computer. Since DoW2 uses a P2P system, it only runs as fast as the slowest computer.

Thanks for the links. I had already came across them yesterday, they didnt seem to help any.

I'v tried quite a few different things beyond that so far concerning my computer itself. I bumped the cpu to 3.8 from stock 3.5, bumped gpu to 1ghz/4620, even switched my memory from 1333 to 1600. I tried closing etc programs, ramped up cooling (not that it was an issue)...and still the problem remains in both single and multiplayer. Mostly seems tied into the terrain deformations for me.

For now, I'll just enjoy the game in low and continue trying this or that until either I or somebody else figures this out.
