Performance issue with 8800GT

I've noticed other people talking about this, so I decided to share.

System Specs:
AMD 64 3700+
8800GT
2 gig ram
biostar tforce 4u (mobo)

I've seen people with a single core 3500 get twice the FPS I do with much higher settings.

I'm only getting about 25 FPS with terrible settings and "high performance" on.

800x600 res
0 AA
Medium-High settings

My mobo is about 1.5 years old, and my computer won't start up when I try to install my new CPU (AMD64 X2 3800). I've been told the power supply (500W) should be more than enough.

I'm thinking about reinstalling XP since I'm having some other slight problems, although I don't see it affecting the performance.

Maybe some people just got a shitty batch of 8800GT?

There has been a number of threads recently concerning low GT performance on AMD processors even X2's.

Can you run a 3D mark 06 test and post back your SM2,SM3,CPU and overall score, this will give us a "rough" idea of where your rig is at.
.

Ya, I've updated to the latest nvidia and directx 9 drivers.

What's 3d mark and where do I download it?

Okay, so what information do I copy from 3d mark?

Is it this?

3DMark Score 6272 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 3315 Marks
SM 3.0 Score 4212 Marks
CPU Score 868 Marks

Detailed Test Results

Graphics Tests
1 - Return to Proxycon 27.161 FPS
2 - Firefly Forest 28.093 FPS

CPU Tests
CPU1 - Red Valley 0.273 FPS
CPU2 - Red Valley 0.442 FPS

HDR Tests
1 - Canyon Flight (SM 3.0) 48.332 FPS
2 - Deep Freeze (SM 3.0) 35.911 FPS

Yea your CPU score is not flash and clearly the reason for the low 3Dmark score (should be around 11K+). SM2 and SM3 are ok considering the CPU. The CPU bottleneck however is vastly exaggerated in synthetic benchmarks like 3Dmark.

There is no exact science but the GT will be bottlenecked by the CPU at resolutions 1280x1024 and below in most games. Although I believe even at higher resolutions your GT will be bottlenecked depending on the game and IQ etc.

You could try and overclock the 3700+ and may get a decent boost if you can get it up around 2.8gig (not to extreme and very doable). As for the X2 even if you do get it running it will benefit from a overclock as well.

I can 100% safely say your lower FPS in Crysis is CPU related, not video card.

BTW, you should try the Crysis ini tweaks if you haven't already, big performance improvement.

My old Tforce 4U wouldn't recognize my opty 170, and I had the latest bios off their site. Don't know what the compatibility issue is with that board.
