simply put, i want to use a perc 5/i as simply a controller. I want to be able to access the drives plugged into it without having to create a raid VG
I'm using linux, so i'm not sure if that is affecting this at all, all i see at this point is:
[ 7.560823] megasas: 0x1028:0x0015:0x1028:0x1f03: bus 7:slot 14:func 0
[ 7.560838] megaraid_sas 0000:07:0e.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18
[ 7.560880] megasas: FW now in Ready state
[ 7.620072] scsi6 : LSI SAS based MegaRAID driver
[ 7.622032] scsi 6:0:0:0: Direct-Access ATA ST3500630AS K PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
[ 7.623618] scsi 6:0:1:0: Direct-Access ATA WDC WD5000AAKS-0 1C02 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
[ 7.625509] scsi 6:0:2:0: Direct-Access ATA ST3500630AS K PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
[ 7.627157] scsi 6:0:4:0: Direct-Access ATA WDC WD5000AAKS-0 1C02 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
[ 7.629018] scsi 6:0:5:0: Direct-Access ATA ST3500630AS K PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
[ 7.630868] scsi 6:0:6:0: Direct-Access ATA ST3500630AS K PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
[ 7.632486] scsi 6:0:7:0: Direct-Access ATA WDC WD5000AAKS-0 1C02 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
the reason for this is i already have a software raid setup with these drives. old controller failed so really i just needed a cheap controller, the perc5 was cheap and fit my needs. i'd prefer not to have a dependency on a hardware raid controller (paid less than 100 for the card, cheaper than any 8+ port pci-e controller i could find).
is it even possible to get to my drives with this thing or did i just throw away some cash
