I think he already knows it's a cable. But LawGiver is right. There was a older 8-pin configuration that power supply manufacturers used and was incompatible with the actual spec. As far as what specific manufacturer(s) actualy did this, you may need to rely on another fourm member to provide you with that information. :confused:
