So I had to remove a lappy from my farm a week or so ago and I haven't had time to add the new one.... yeah I know lazy me.... but my numbers have been WAY down over the last few weeks.
So I finally had time to walk around and survey the status of my borgs and whadda ya know... people have been turning my machines off! :eek:
One of the machines in my lab here at work was off (added a new one while I was at it and borged it too! :D ) and my wifes machine was off at home. My machine powered itself down again so I must need a PS or to make sure my cooling is A-OK.
The extra box under MY DESK at work was powered off too.... who ever did that is gonna die!!!! :p

SO I got the farm all back up... added another box and tonight I'll be borging my new lappy and getting one more P3 1.0 going.

I'm not really mad about the few machines being turned off..... my bad for traveling and not having time to look things over.... but people just suck. ;)
All in all I think I'll come out with my OOMPH after this weekend than I had before... so my numbers should only get better. But it was killing me to see the drop in production.
Chalk one up to experience. Need to watch my boxen better.
 
I Know the feeling. My mom keeps turning off her P3 that I borged. The only time it does and work is when I go over to her house on Sat. and do the wash. The first thing I do when I walk in the door is turn it on. The damn thing Finishes 1 WU a month. She said that its too loud , thats why she turns it off. So I put in some ultra quiet fans ( you can hear t now ) but she still turns it off. :mad:

Not as bad as your story , but it still pisses me off/


 
DR.. you just CAN'T go around talking about your mom in the people suck thread. .. its just not right. :D

.. you should get her one of the $298 2.8HT dell servers over in hot deals to make up for it (I got one for my inlaws last month.. very quiet.)

Hell... while you're at it... but 10 :D

I know the feeling though... I went away on business for about a week, and my parents turned off my PCs... came home to see a lovely flat line on my production for a week.... :rolleyes: that, and no matter what I do, I can't convince my brother to run F@H on his PC... it sits idle 99% of the time... but he doesn't want it to take away from anything when he burns CDs,etc.... and that only happens once every 3 months........ frustrating...

I had a similar problem in January. I went on business for a week and came home to realize 3 of my computers were off because a circuit breaker had popped and my wife hadn't noticed for the whole week.
 
My dad listens to me when it comes to anything about computers. He lets me run F@H on his computer. :) Dads rock.

My dad is the same way. The majority of my borgs are his or are systems that he pays the power on (my systems). The only systems that I have borged that he doesn't pay for are my brother's and my girlfriend's systems. He has always left all the systems on 24/7 even before I started this crazy FAH addiction. Its a nice situation to be in. So, not all people suck.

Hmmm... what about those people that suck, that are also cool. My parents for instance, let me fold on their rig full time (cool), but they click on every thing (big time sucky), so they get loads of spyware that hogs the cpu time. It boggles the mind I tell ya!

Teach them about ad aware!
I have the same prob with my brothers box/ on 24/7 but it takes forever to turn in something!
I am tempted to ask about VNCn into his box to take care of this crap every day!
Kinda why I am rethinking the whole borg idea, rather have my own boxen to admin.

Heh, the funny thing is, my mom sits down once a week, and does adaware, spybot, and MS antispyware, along with checking for windowsupdates, and newest virus updates. Then my dad sits down, gets drawn in by the bright colors and blinking lights, and its all over for another week. I always get calls about how proud she is that its clean and then bang. I am pretty sure my dad could be the only person to get spyware on a video slot machine, he's damn good at it. ;)

Only takes one of those clicky...clicky types to ruin a good setup!
I got my mom a new rig that i built...borged it...and shes a nOOb and hasnt got the internet yet...my probs are just beginning! You gotta love em! :rolleyes:
Oh well....we all learned screwing stuff up right! :D
Worse than clicky, clicky is im afraid to touch it...dont you touch it either, it might break! :rolleyes:

Ah the keep your damn hands off type. My mom was like that when we first got a computer. I know I incurred her wrath more than a few times when I would make a change. And the internet... I got it and paid for it (let's hear it for 14.4 access on an isp with 5 connections!) and that got me into even more trouble. The first time she got on it while ICQ was running and started getting messages I got grounded. :( Oh well, I wouldn't be where I am without breaking that thing more than a few times and getting grounded in the process.

Im the uber geek of the family so....I built it, I have to fix them when it all goes bad so I get to lay the rules down!
Theres good and bad there! ;)
My rule one is its a tool/toy dont be afraid of it...if it breaks...ill fix it!
Really bothers me when people are afraid of thier rigs......what if I...... :rolleyes:
