...that there are still advantages to owning a Pentium 4.

Sure, the A64's rack up in gaming if all you care about is getting the FPS on your games into regions that aren’t even really noticeable anymore. A 3.0+Ghz Pentium 4 is still a great chip for a gaming machine.

It also happens to be THE chip for video encoding. People scream.... IT’S ALMOST AS FAST ON AN AMD CHIP!

Reproduce this one with an AMD chip, then.

Good luck. :)

I am still encoding this American Wedding Xvid to DVD MPEG2 as we speak and my system is perfectly responsive. Thanks hyperthreading!

Oh.. it's catching up to realtime. 58:48 have passed and I'm only 1:03 off.

I am watching Kill Bill, chatting on irc, posting this, and messing around with more images in Photoshop with no system lag. Thanks again hyperthreading!

Why start a thread just to get flamed...

This is just waste of space and frankly you just lost me three minutes of my life...

you have shamed who you have stolen your name from. may god have mercy on your soul.

You know what, I'll agree. I've encoded video on my machine with my 3.0C OC'ed to 3.4GHz w/Hyperthreading and it totally kicks ass.

The only reason HT is possible on these chips is due to the longass pipeline. Hence why Prescott is supposed to be better at HT. An even longer pipeline.

only problem with that is that dual opteron system is going to cost way over waht a pc with a 3.0 P4 would.

What about dual xeons with HT?

The future of Prescott: when Moore gives you lemons...
The Pentium M and hyperthreading: the latency problem
in short Hyperthreading isnt to be in this interation

Introduction to Multithreading, Superthreading and Hyperthreading

yup video editing aps are currently optimized for hyperthreading but then they are optimized for SMP too
but the lastest and greatest in top of the line HD, SD, DV & HDV editing boxes
will find as many Dual Opterons as Xeons (and they cost less :p )

you really cant say that one is superior to the other through the whole spectrum of potential editing senerios

Ok this thread actually got informative (but thanks to a mod) . I guess i withdraw my initial comment.

Hmm okay.. so if you didnt do all that multi tasking at once.. how long would it take you to encode that video?

Flaming an entire forum with AMD Vs. Intel flambait will not be tolerated. You can read and follow the rules or your membership can be permanantly refunded. Pretty much up to you at this point.....

Your choice - B.B.S.
