Today, I decided to pick up X800 Pro at Fry's.

To my surprise, there were actually 2 X800 Pros on the shelf although both were returned.

Nonetheless, they gave me a $20 discount so I thought it'd be worth it. So I purchased it.

In my car, the moment I opened the box, I was infuriated because I knew...the card was 9800 XT...X800 Pro no where in sight.

Now...the sticker on the box indicates that the item has been returned twice...I wonder how it got exchanged..

When I went up to the customer service department, they couldn't see the difference so I had to bring another X800 Pro to tell them that it is a different item. When the service guy took 9800 XT to test it...the capacitor was blown, heatsink has been swapped, and the screw on the back was worn off. And of course, the sticker that has its serial number and the model name has been swapped also. The sticker also had a clear indication that it's been peeled off by someone.

Whoever comitted this disgusting crime, please stop. You are the REASON why the price of the video card goes up for the rest of us to suffer.

People...have some conscience...Fry's "No question money back guarantee" won't last longer if this keeps up....

I agree wholly. People who switch out stuff or return it because it's broken just make prices higher for everyone, not to mention giving hardware enthusiasts a bad rap. Now someone out there had an X800 in their computer but did not truly pay for it. You know who you are, and you're only hurting yourselves, because someday, you will get caught. End of story.

The thief that exchanged his old card for a new one is a scumbag, however, part of the blame of it happening has to go on the Fry's employee who accepted the return.

if it wasn't the employee himself who swapped the cards...

Fry's is natorious for not checking returns. I returned a DFI motherboard (ligit reason, USB ports would not work) and the guy checking my return didn't even look at the board. I wouldn't be suprised that he just slapped a returned sticker on it and stuck it back on the shelf.

I also agree that people should not try and cheat the system because soon we won't be able to return anything...same thing happend to software.
