Hello all.

After an initial leak in my new system, I got some more pentosin from petra and made a new batch of coolant. However, since I still have my old coolant next to me (its been half a week, but im lazy), I compared the colors of the two.

Here is a photo in comparison.

The old batch is on the left, new on the right.

I have two other bottles of Pentosin sitting next to me, but they are both the same color as the one I just used. What should I do? just use the new batch anways?

Should I dilute it more? I still have ~ 1 liter of distilled sitting next to me, and I can get more...

Ps .both are lighter in color than in the pic, but the right batch is still much more of a dark teal than a blue.

Obvious, I do care, otherwise I wouldn't have posted. I was not really posting due to the color, I was posting due to the fact that it may be a different substance.

While I admit, I did like the other color more, I do not really care that much. More to the point, I want to make sure it is actually the same substance. All pictures of people using pentosin have been the lighter blue color, and it seems to work well, but I get a dark green color, and want to make sure its not something else.

Now I admit, I should have added more information that I was concerned about the performance vs the color in the first place, but still, no reason to post an insulting post such as that.
 
Is the new one the "UV" sensitive batch that he now lists on his web site? I personally like the one on the left.
 
Yes, the bottle says 'UV Reactive' on it, can't remember if the old one did, didn't keep it.

However, looking at the reciept emails, I think that would be the difference.

Here is the item listing for the original Pentosin G11 that I got,
"Pentosin G11 Coolant Additive (Blue) - 4oz. PG11-B4OZ 1 4.50"

and this is for the recent order with him,

"UV Reactive Pentosin G11 Coolant Additive (Blue) - 4oz. UVPG11-B4OZ 3 4.50"

I think he should put the old stuff back up, not just this stuff. But thank you very much for that note, eased my concern as to wether or not this will perform similarly. Fillin' her up now!
 
So many people want UV loops so Alex is just trying to make everyone happy. There is probably a market for both versions.
 
I hear you on that one. I care about performance first, but I doubt he would have switched it without notification if it had reduced performance. In my mind, performance + quietness > looks.

However, when I filled up my system, it looks exactally the same as the non-uv looked, or at least, as far as I can recall. However, that may change once all the air is out of the loop.
 
The switch was one of necessity.

Basically, Pentosin changed their dye with the most recent batches that we received. As a result of the change, the coolant looked only slightly blue when diluted (i.e. it was super weak, almost clear). So, we had to find a temporary solution while trying to track down the old stuff again and that solution was to switch to G11 from another manufacturer. The color, when at 10% and in tubing, is pretty close to the original G11 (it does seem to have more of a blue-green color, though) and the photos on our website were updated. Performance, however, should be the same as they're both formulated to the same specifications.

Personally, I also like the color of the old stuff more... we're working on it.

I think the little bottle of pentosin I bought from Petra a while ago is the old stuff...it doesn't say UV reactive on it at least.

I do really like the color of the old stuff better than that new stuff. I think I will hold onto this bottle like liquid gold unless Petra can find a source of the old stuff :)
 
i have the original G11, bought the 4oz. :D got it a while back, prefer it over the new stuff.

i'm in the middle of redoing my loop and i think i'm gonna go with Petra's long life Red this time. getting kinda tired of seeing green or blue in people's loops :p

There was nothing insulting about it. I really wanted to know if you were just posting it as an FYI for everyone else, or if you'd dropped $500 on a custom powdercoated case, and were pissed that your planned color scheme was wrecked.

I was just wondering what your motivation was. That's all...

edit: Granted it would have come across more effectively if I'd used more than three words! :p
 
Oh, my appologies. I took your post as more of a 'why do you care?' more than a 'does it mess up a custom color job?'.

About to fire up my system after the leak test... Seeing as how it is my first water cooled system, I'm dreadfully worried that for some reason the parts wont be cool at all....

Don't dilute the G12 to 10% if you want any colour at all, and G12 is pink, not red. G12 also has a bit of chalk in it, to help with finding coolant leaks in cars (leaks can be seen as pink chalky residue). I'm running 10% G12 in my loop, just looks like a very light/pale milky pink. The chalk has congregated on my tubing walls. G12 also reacts quite badly with any other colour of coolant. You need to chemically flush the system if you're switching from/to any blue or green. Blue (G11) and normal green mix together safely, red/pink (G12) doesn't.

As a VW person, someone who sells Pentosin daily, and as someone who runs G12 in their computer, I'll have to recommend against the switch to G12 without knowing what you're getting into. I'm not looking forward to flushing my loop, potentially harming my components, just to get away from G12. For now, I am stuck. I too thought it would be cool to have red coolant, to match my red DFI board and red ATI card.
 
Petra even saved the best for last in the item description....its poisonous!!! yay!
 
Does Pentosin come in Red ? What other brands that have the Red color. I currently have the blue pentosin
 
Ah, when you said red, I figured it'd be G12 since he deals with Pentosin. The only Pentosin red is G12, the only Pentosin blue is G11. The Germans tend to be logical, so you can see what's in the system by just looking at it. G11/12 are standardized specifications from automakers, they aren't just fancy part numbers. G12 is known as a "Lifetime Antifreeze", the chemical makeup and the chalk keep it stable for longer. I suppose that the Japanese can do what they want with coolant colours, but I hope that repair shops don't see the red and assume G12, and then kill the whole system.
