Several months ago I shipped a computer down to Anaheim and FedEx completely jacked it up. The box had holes in it, and had obviously been tossed around ALOT. Of the many things that were shaking around loose inside the case, the one that turned my stomach was the processor which I found underneath the heatsink... normal except they were both in the bottom of the case, not attached to the socket as they had left. The case was bent up, the video card had busted free of the agp slot and the processor had several bent pins. In trying to straighten these pins out I accidentally broke off one of the pins. Several months later, out of sheer boredom, I tried again to straighten the pins and broke another one off... lol.. So it seemed that I was doomed. Today however, I managed to semi-force the processor down into the socket. and it did pop in, seemingly without breaking or bending any new pins. On the first try the computer booted right up! Even while the processor was missing TWO PINS!?!? So, I ran a disk check, a disk defragment and tooled around with a couple programs.... everything seemed normal.
HOWEVER, surely there is a weakness there. Surely the freakin thing can;t continue to work completely normally eh? My question to all of you jokers is: What program could I use to test out this processor to tell me wether it is TRUELY functioning the way it should?
Also: Is there a reference that I could find that might tell me what those pins control?
