Just wondering if anyone out there has 24/7 Pentium2 folders, and if so, which type of units they use on them? A friend of mine has setup a Pentium2 cluster in his dorm for me that folds 24/7, comprised mainly of laptops stacked rackmount-styke (400s 450s and such, some celeron some pentium2) and an ATX machine or two. I think he just has the basic small units crunching away, which obviously are free PPD (same reason I use my P3's) but I was wondering what's the best unit to use on them? Timeless tinkers? Regular units? Big units? :p I don't have any personally or I'd run 2 of them to see which gave a higher PPD average..
 
20 PPD maybe highest I've seen on mine. WU type= it's all a blood bath. Avoid tinkers.
 
Timeless. Definitely timeless. I'm not even sure those machines would make the deadlines on normal units. Maybe those with crapper farms could chime in here--k*?

 
I would say that your friends only option here would be to set them up to receive timeless units.
 
If the box is running 24/7, just set to normal WU's. Timeless on average are monster 241 timkers which will take 1/2 a year to do.

I've done 600 pointers on a P2 450 (don't set to big packets).

Timeless. I've got a pair of p3-450's(with external cache) folding timeless. They take about 2 weeks to finish them, and pull around 20ppd. They are esentially the same as P2's with SSE, which may help some.
 
Timeless units only on PII era systems. They don't have SSE and will run dog ass slow on anything but tinkers.

I'm not exactly sure about PPD. I think my PII 266's would run about 14 PPD each in a dually setup. I don't feel like tossing a Celeron 300 to see what that can do but it wouldn't be much more and that's the fastest PII based processor I have. I have a PIII 600 that runs around 32 PPD I believe and a PIII 800 that runs around 40 PPD give or take a little bit. Those numbers are all from tinker WU's.

For normal WU's, PII's and PIII's work the best with tinkers. They don't have the inefficient penalty that P4's do and run much better. Regular Gromacs also seem to process a bit slower than tinkers do on PIII's even though they have SSE. Ambers crunch at about the same speed or a little slower than tinkers on PIII's also.
