I have a Abit IP35-E, but my Freezer 7 will not work due to the northbridge heatsink. My quesiton is will the stock HSF work fine or should i got with this one?

I mostly use my system for converting video to dvd's, and some gaming.

My current system is a D930 and Abit AW8, but i flashed my bios with the newest bios and now my temps are idle at 35-40 and max at 50-60. Before the bios flash i was getting idle at 25-30 and max of maybe 40. I have since the upgrade cleaned the heatsink and cpu off and reapplied the Arctic paste, and still have the same high reading.

Or should I replace the Freezer 7 with the Rosewill one and keep the D930 and AW8?
 
A stock heatsink should work with any motherboard that can accept the appropriate cpu. I don't think Abit would design a motherboard that does not work with a stock heatsink. That would be very nearsighted for them to do that.

Anyway, my brother has the IP35-Pro with an E6550 and he's using the stock heatsink with no clearance problems.

As for heat issues, I have an E2160 overclocked to 2.45GHz on an eVGA mobo using the stock heatsink and temps are below 55C at full load.

You should be ok as well as long you install the heatsink correctly. Just keep an eye on your temps for awhile if you are unsure of the system stability..
 
no what i was meaning was would the stock HSF be fine on the E2160 or should i go ahead a get the Rosewill, since my Freezer will not work due to the northbridge on the IP35-E.

Or should i get the Rosewill to replace the Freezer on my current D930/AW8 setup.

Please remeber the D930 is a 95watt and the E2160 is 65watt, but the cache on the D930 is 2x2mb vs the E2160 1x1mb.
 
It's not clear to me if you have the E2160 or still the D930. If you're up & running on the E2160 with those temps, they're OK (towards the upper end of acceptable, but still OK).
I'm not familiar with Pentium D temps, just that everybody says they run hot, believable w/that 95W power rating :)

If you want to use the D930 w/the 2160's HSF, then compare their physical size. If the old one has more surface area it will dissipate more heat - though IMO the current/new C2D circular HSFs are pretty good, much better than old gen square sinks w/columns of fins.

& are you OverClocking? If those temps are @ stock, they are OK but no OCing's recommended from there...

PS that 2160 for $70's a great performance/$ ratio -- using the stock HSF keeps it that way. Adding more money (even if only $15) w/aftermarket ones ultimately makes the chip less of a bargain & usually doesn't make a significant impact in how long the CPU lasts for
 
1) That Rosewill looks like a rebadged Arctic Cooling so if the AC doesnt fit I dont think this Rosewill will either.

2) If youre not overclocking just use the stock fan. Why did you even change it in the first place?

Rosewill fan and heatsink are not as low are the Arctic, so i am thinking the northbridge will touch the Rosewill.

well since the D930 is a 95watt CPU it was running a little too hot the stock HSF. With the E2160 only at 65watt and is running cooler
