im new to overclocking and i was wondering what settings and what not i would need and if im able to with the setup i have...i just bought this processor along with GIGABYTE GA-G33M-DS2R, xclio goodpower 500 power supply, and G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel...i have this along with a dvd burner and an ide 80gb hard drive...so with stock cooling would i be able to overclock with this setup ive read alot about this processor is really nice to overclock...what bios settings should i change? thx

First off, I'm not familiar with your PSU. You may want something better, but I'll look into it.

Second, PLEASE use punctuation and proper grammar, it makes it a lot easier to understand you in the future.

Third: You'll probably want an aftermarket cooler on there. the stock one will be all right for a small overclock, but not the greatest once you start getting up there.

Fourth: Follow the guide here: http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=103676

Any more questions?

I appreciate the link but im not into reading a 10 page document on overclocking i just want a simple resolution. Ive read that this setup is as easy as increasing the FSB and doing nothing else with success.
Before i would do that im just curious that everything would be fine. This isnt my computer and its not necessary to overclock i have just been reading that this cpu begs to be overclocked.

There is no simple resolution with overclocking. If you're going to do it, much like driving or flying or anything else, you have to understand ~what~ it is that you're actually doing. Just bumping up the FSB might get you there for now, but you won't know about stability, how it effects the rest of your system, etc. Would everything be fine? Who knows: Read the link, it'll help you figure that out.

There's a lot more to it than just doing it. You don't just crank it up and go, you adjust things, test stability and load, adjust them again, retest, try maxing out one setting, adjust, etc... If it was just a magic dial, don't you think Intel would just set them there to start with?

Wow...

I guarentee that cranking the FSB up will only result in a swift system crash.

I want to graduate from University too, but don't want to do the reading. I'm out of luck, and so are you.

Read it, understand it. That's the only way you'll do it.

On another note: Are those HZ's or regular sticks? If they're just the regular crap, have fun maxing out your RAM at approximately FSB255MHz. 3:5 divider for the win.
