would this CPU work on this motherboard, I currently have a D930, but the temps are running pretty high.
 
Sorry to say it, but it's highly unlikely that it does.. The last BIOS update was a LONG time ago (before Conroe cores?), and the quick search I did brings up a probable no on the AW8/AW8D, and AW8-Max a definite possibly on support there (read: don't count on it though).

A few things to ponder..

It the only reason you're looking to upgrade the temp issue? Or other things as well, ie: the increased IPC (coupled w/ the far better power consumption)? Assuming you're running stock cooling (not in sig), have you considered getting an aftermarket heatsink? A very good bang for the buck cooler seems to be the Xigmatek S1283 (very close performance wise to the much lauded TRUE @ ~$50+ plus cost of fan) - *was* on sale @ Newegg the other week for $27, now back up to ~$37 I think unfortunately.

Last, have you considered upgrading both the CPU *and* motherboard? You should be able to find a retail 2160 + Abit IP35-E for ~$120 AR. You should also be good for quads should you want to go that route a bit later on.
