Pentium D

It's would be very hard to dispute that the AMD K8 architecture currently is better suited to gaming then the Pentium 4 NetBurst architecture.

If your into gaming and must have Dual Core the Athlon64x2 3800+, S939 Opteron 165/170 would be good processor to have.

The Pentium D 830 will be slower then it's competitor in gaming, but still should be able to provide a comfortable gaming experience as long as you pair it with a strong graphics card. It just will be somewhat slower.

QFT, Almost every review I have read shows AMD ahead of Intel in games. I dont think anyone will deny that. But ask yourself, is the game unplayable on the Intel machine? Not hardly, nothing wrong with an Intel gaming rig. Im actually looking forward to switching back to Intel in the near future.

If its a gaming rig, then I would say use a single core chip !
I would choose AMD over Intel, but in either case, NOT a dual core.
No need to deal with the dual core gaming issues

AMD is definetely faster but intel doesn't really get creamed.

the AMD X2 3800+ gets 115.2 fps
the Pentium D 820 gets 96.3 fps

The Intel chip is about 16.4% slower compared to the AMD. :D

Pentium D 830 competes with Athlon 64x2 3800+ so it's 101.6 vs 115.2, in an artificial CPU limited situation, if you have this much perofrmance please turn up the eye candy and resolution. :)

mine games as well as my amd64 did.

see sig if you are looking for one a little cheaper. keep in mind you need a 945/955x chipset mobo to use them. they are bloody expensive.

see sig
