Hello there, I am currently in the lookout for a good solid as a rock and STOCK system for a client, was looking around at the EGG's inventory for this and Im pretty much new at the Pentium D stuff. What motherboard would you guys recommend ? Im looking at Intel and ASUS motherboards with 945 chipset, any experience with these, remember no overclocking just a great super stable system, Im getting the Pentium D 840 btw, also for memory would Kingston Value Ram be ok ? Should I look for PC5300 or PC5400 ?

Also are afterparty coolers recomended for stock systems ? Dont see noise as much of an issue, but I wouldnt like to have temp problems.
 
Go with the AOpen I945a-PLF. This motherboard has some decent energy management features which will help keep processor temps under control. The stock heatsink should be fine for the Pentium D, but if you are unhappy with the processor's temps you can always grab a third party heatsink. I would test the system before you give it to the client.
 
Yeah for sure, some dual prime testing and the usual stability tests.

So what about the memory ?
 
My PD 830 rig is very stable and very fast. My Thermaltake Big Typhoon keeps it at 43 idle, which is not to bad for these heaters :)
 
I never was a big fan of Acer (Aopen) products. There is so much better out there for very little more money. They're not bad, don't get me wrong, but if I have to make a choice between say Intel and Aopen, I always choose Intel.

I really like Asus boards, have owned what seems like dozens of them, sold a zillion of them, offer them as my feature mainboard to clients and have four of them sitting here. Every once in a while, though, I pick up a flakey one that likes doing goofy things just to piss me off, I swear.

The Intel boards are ALWAYS rock solid. They perform extremely well, especially in office environments. They last forever and a day. Your client won't be calling you back for motherboard problems for years. They are not expensive. For someone that will never be doing any overclocking I highly recommend this product line. I love them.
 
Yeah I was looking real close to Intel 945P boards, but the ASUS P5LD2 caught my attention, just in the wild case he one day says hey I want to try and overclock lol, but should also be stable as hell at stock, I personally love my ASUS s478 mobo. :D
 
for no OCing, go with an intel board. you just cant beat them in teh stability and "no problems" category.
 
^^^ Yes if you want absolute stability and don't care about OCing then you can't beat and Intel board.

he needs a chip with pins, and 939 of them at that to use in that board..

which he doesnt have..
