The Reg says price cuts are coming on the PDs, along with a new 960D chip:
http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2006/02/14/intel_price_cuts_23_april/
Code:
Chip Old Price New Price
960D X $530
950D $637 $316
940D $423 $241
930D $316 $209
920D $241 $209
I was planning on finishing my rig (w/a 920D) next month, but with these cuts, looks like I can move up to a 930D for less money if I wait another month. Definitely worth the wait, I think.

Now if only Intel didn't strangle themselves by forcing other chipmakers out of the motherboard market I might consider a switch.

How the hell is the 920D the same price as the 930D?

Oh, I checked out the website, 920D is $178 ;)

920 is gonna be 178US in Q3 2006, not Q2 2006.

960D here I come! :D I bet with the right cooling these 960D chips hit above 5GHz with ease.

those 1st cuts are 2 months away.... not 1 month.

It makes the 930 the perfect chip to get.... CHEAP..... stock 3Ghz... and hopefully OC'd 4+Ghz.

I think over at THG they said something about a second price cut later on.... 960s going for 300ish i think....

We'll have to see how M2 and Conroe compares, ill be getting an upgrade at about that time....

When has anyone else made a better chipset for an intel board?

along with the price cuts the 940 and 950 are going from b1 stepping to c1 stepping lowering the tdp from 130w to 95w. I think these will get the EIST back as well.

1 mo. + 1 mo. = 2 mo.

Kind of like how nVidia won't allow SLi on Intel chipsets, b/c they are whiny bitches?

If you'd've clicked the link, you'd've seen that in the final paragraph. ;)

How far off is Conroe? These prices look too good to be true unless something big is just over the horizon.

Wait, it says........"All prices are per processor when sold in batches of 1000 CPUs."
ya and when newegg and other people buy it, i'm pretty sure it's in batches of 10,000. They pass the savings down to you. Besides, I think that's official price. I'm sure newegg pays a lot less for it then we do

dear god, i was considering ditching my x2 for a 9xx chip, this makes it even more tempting.. thats really cheap. not to mention DDR2 is cheap as hell and i can sell my gskill 2gb pc4000 kit for pretty much as i paid..

before anyone asks, NV's chipsets have been pissing me off recently.

They're already running MUCH MUCH cooler than Prescotts and hitting 4 Ghz for 900's & 4.5Ghz on 6x1's easily on air. If they make them run even cooler, that might mean 5Ghz for the 6x1's!
not necessarly. There is also a process limit when even if the processor is cold, it can't run at a higher clock speed.

you ever see a chip in a vapochill ? cooler = faster

I know they're still limits. I didn't say all the sudden they're going to start running 10Ghz. Just maybe another 10% overclock. Like many steppings in the past, it could enable higher clocks and cooler running chips.

They are also addding enhanced speedstep so the 3.4 GHz Pentium D will dissipate 95 watts...

The price cuts are very tempting for those who want to build in the summer, but for those whose single core AthlonXP is fine for now, we wait for quad core or Conroe.
Not me, I plan on getting a PentiumD to replace my 2500+. Conroe's nice, I'm sure, but I am not planning on waiting that long.
