Pentium D 945 OC Temps Question

Running a SL9QB D945 in an ASUS P5N32E-SLI with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. Rest of the bits and pieces are listed in my post signature.

Intel Processor Specfinder for my processor at http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SL9QB tells me that the Thermal Specification is 63.4 C and the Core Voltage range is 1.225V-1.312V.

This board has serious undervolting issues so I set 1.36875 Vcore in the BIOS, which results in 1.34 Vcore displayed in the BIOS Power Monitor. Everest Ultimate Build 931 shows me 1.33 idle / 1.31 on load, and Speedfan 4.32 shows me 1.26 idle / 1.23 on load. Note Lavalys has a fix in the EU 931 to add 0.08V to the Vcore value read from the driver to match what is displayed in ASUS Probe2 software. So I think that Speedfan is showing me something close to the actual Vcore.

All of this intended simply to try and meet the Intel-recommended minimum 1.225 Vcore on load.

I use Speedfan 4.32 for temperature readings.

With a mild overclock FSB=212 MHz to attain 3604 MHz with the locked x17 multiplier, I see 43-43 C at idle. When I run ORTHOS Blend temps rise to 65 C within 8 minutes. Temp hovers around 63-66 C for the rest of the time that I run ORTHOS, no matter how many hours.

Is this normal for a D945 ?????????
 
I have a couple d945s and they idle for me at 50 ish so i would say yes, it seems fairly normal.

rest assured that if it gets too hot the system will shut itself off
 
That's what I hear... it's just that the Presler's run hot in all cases.

Oh well I guess I'll live with it. Was thinking to maybe lap my HSF this weekend and check my CPU IHS to see if I have any convex or concave issues where good contact isn't being made.
 
OK so I gave it two weeks after release and flashed the P5N32E-SLI BIOS 0903 today. This is an 'official' BIOS from ASUS, not marked as a Beta. Heard only good tidings from people who flashed before me.

Why YAY?

I can make a 3.9GHz OC stable with my D945 using only 1.30 Vcore set in BIOS. This results in 1.28 read in BIOS Power Monitor, 1.28 in Everest Build 955, and 1.20 in Speedfan 4.32. Still a drop problem however, under load, EU reads out at 1.25-1.26, and Speedfan reads 1.17-1.18.

AND... running 3.9GHz at these lower voltages results in lower temps than my last 3.8 GHz OC requiring 1.34375 Vcore in BIOS for stability: 60C steady in ORTHOS Blend as compared to 65C steady previously.

I tried 4 GHz OC, it needed quite a bit more Vcore to get stable and the temps rocketed. Since I'm on air cooling I'll use my 3.9 OC for now.
