Anyone have this chip? Worth the money? I was looking at the Amd 4000+ but i'd rather keep it under 300 dollars.
 
1st. You know there's a thing called "Search", look at the little maroon bar across the top. THat could have probably helped you greatly.

2nd. AMD 4000+ is single core and different category. I'd be comparing a 3800+ to the 920D as they're both dual-core.

3rd. I have a 920D it hits 3.9Ghz at default voltage and is faster than an FX-60, 955XE or FX-57. It will hit 4Ghz with a little extra voltage (@ 1.3625v) But I like to keep it cool & at default voltage so I "only" run it a 3.9Ghz.

4th. You might want to also consider a Pentium D 805 as they've been hitting around 3.8Ghz for half the price. (So you can afford either more ram or better videocard)

There was a badass post on the 920's when the first came out. Getting great Oc's and what not. I'm too lazy to search and link it.

What kind of cooling? Damn, you're only a few C above me at full load last time I checked and well, yeah. :D

(As a note, I agree. The D920 is worth your money and an excellent processor - especially with it's overclocking potential on air)

Thermalright XP-90C with generic 92mm blue LED fan. (fairly quiet, nothing fancy like a Vantec Tornado)

65C isn't too bad for 2 full cores at 4Ghz. :)

holy crap! 65ºC makes me cry! nice overclock though....and only 8k small ffts?? whats going on with that
 
b/c I was testing CPU stability not memory stability.

My memory wasn't pushed so that test works fine and it seemed to work fine for testing CPU stability.

And Intel wants to kill it.

The entry-level Presler is a monster overclocker, and Intel wants to kill it when it's barely been born. Does the Pentum D 930 (which will replace the 920 at the bottom of the Presler Barrel) OC just as well?
 
yes, the 9XX series should all overclock about the same (4.25 Ghz on stock cooling guaranteed)

And you know this from ?? I assume personal experience from your definitive statement.

4.25 is a little high for the 900 series.

the 6x1 series (CedarMill) all hit 4.25+++

Most people I have seen with 920 & 930's were getting to around 4Ghz with some extra voltage and good aircooling. The 955XE's were all hitting around 4.25Ghz, but those were probably cherry picked cores.

hahahaha you wish. if they did that with stock cooling...intel would have had such good yeilds they woulda make the 9XX series chips high speeds.
 
given the 65nm process tech, Pentium D 9XX can be fused to more than 4 Ghz and will be stable enough on stock cooling. This is on the assumption that power and temp. is not an issue.

But if Intel does that, it will be contradicting its performance/watt mantra
