hey, i have a friend, he has a pentium4 1.8, and he is using some other cooler, and he is asking me what speed does the fan supoosed to spin at? he says it spins at 3750rpm. and he is asking me if there is anyway he can speed it up without changing the fan?. thanx for ur replys.

Without knowing what hs/fan the cooler is, I would guess you can't speed the fan up. It's probably running at it's only speed, max speed.

if you hook up the ground to the -5v line it will send 17volts to the fan. It's not reccomended but it would work.

There was an article on [H] a long time ago on how to do this.

i doubt it will.... the amps/current from sources like batteries, household, etc. usually have unlimited current..(infinite amps) ... but it will work because if you take 12v and subtract -5v, you get 17v

(12v) - (-5v) = 12v + 5v = 17v

17v is what will be left when electricity flows through from 12v to -5v.... this extra 17v is used for whatever component you have on that line (ie. one fan) .... that means that fan is receiving 17v... i wouldnt recommend this idea because it does shorten the fans life however if you have plenty of fans to kill, overvolt it and make it spin faster...

heres a guide on overvolting your fans to spin faster

And hope that you don't fry your CPU in the middle of the night when the fan blows and the processor is suddenly passively cooled...

If you want more airflow, buy a fan that pushes more CFM. It will only cost a few bucks... IMHO, your CPU fan is not something you want to play with. :)
