Has any other chip had as many "revisions" as the P4?

1. Willamette, the original
2. Northwood, aka P4A
3. Northwood 533FSB, aka P4B
4. Northwood 800FSB w/HT, aka P4C
5. Prescott 1MB L2, SSE3, aka P4E
6. Prescott, Socket T

P6...

1 P Pro
PII:
2 * Klamath
3 * Deschutes
PIII:
4 * Katmai
5 * Coppermine
6 * Tualatin

Athlon comes close, if you don't count A64.
K7, K7-5 (.18u K7)
Tbird
Palimino
Tbread
Thorton \ Barton

I think the Athlon Core has had about as many give or take.

On the P4, would the celeron count?

well, at least twice the Celeron had a core all its own... and it was basically a P2...

Don't forget that the Willamette came in Socket 423 and socket 478....I had a 1.7 Willy Sock 478 that could do 1.9, almost!

Actually, I think there was only one time it had its own core. The Mendocino 128KB cache chips(300-533MHz, Slot One and PPGA) had no PII/III equal. The earlier cacheless chips(Coventry?) were basically just the PII core without the L2 cache on the Slot One cartridge. The Coppermine and Tualatin Celerons were modified versions of the PIII. I think that's how it was, but I could be wrong.

Just think, that little P6 core went from 166MHz all the way to 1.4GHz.
