Pentium 4 631 + PcChips P23G (socket 775) - processor upgrade

Yes, I know it's old, very old gear, but still...

Does anyone know of a good upgrade path for this mobo? I was going to get a Celeron E3300, but I guess the mobo doesn't support it.

Any ideas?

You might be able to find an Pentium D Extreme Edition for cheap. Even one of the faster Pentium D's might be a decent boost in performance. I actually was running a Pentium D 3.4ghz up until 2 months ago as my primary home desktop.

Based on the old page for this board on Newegg.com it appears that the board is able to use the early Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processors. So I would look to see if I could find one of these http://ark.intel.com/compare/27251,27250,29755,27249,29754,27248

There were two versions of the P23G. V1.0 only supports up to a Pentium D, V3.0 supports Core 2 Duo's. Hopefully the OP has the V3.0 version.
