Penryn Quadcore (45nm)?

Well, I just picked up my Core 2 Quad Q6600 today. I would have gone with the QX6800, but I will wait for Penryn and AMD's newer offerings before I drop that kind of cash on a processor again.

Congratulations. How warm does that cpu run?
 
I'd wait for the 45nms simply because it will mean a nice price drop for the current line up.
But we'll wait and see what real performance differences there are.
 
It's wise to wait. I have been saving for the last 3 years for a top notch computer and another couple of months won't hurt me

I haven't really looked all that much. Idle it seems to be about 8 degrees hotter than the Core 2 Duo E6600 was. 28C-36C. I haven't measured load temps yet.
 
the Penryn are really two die shrinks in one since the gates are going to be closer together, as well as the move to 45nm. The only downside I can see to theme is the possibilty of timing issues becuase they just changed what all the internal timing is based on in your pc by shorting the length current has to travel between gates and through them... The last shift in that value was the initial shift to silicone, which was quite some time ago.
