Let's hope X38 won't be a disappointment.

Otherwise getting boards to hit 500Mhz FSB is the next hurdle.

If the Skulltrail dual sockets motherboard is anywhere under $400, I'll be damn happy!
 
hmmm, looks nice

but im kinda peeved at what they did with the Q9300, it costs the same as a Q6600 does now, yet has less cache, and a minor clock speed bump...

(yes i know it runs cooler and has a small IPC bump, but still, this is a pretty small incremental upgrade for the $266 price point)

but that Q9450 looks quite nice, should i require a quad next year, thatll be it!

I guess the closest release this year would be the Harpertown line (Xeon LGA771 series).

Pricing is not bad but I find it weird to see a Q9300 with less cache than the Q6600. The Q9450 is a better choice :)

 
agreed that E8400 i think is by far the best bang for your buck...

im liking that Q9450 the most though...
 
im all over that Q9450. that right tharrr is the reason i've held off on a q6600
 
The q9450 looks like what i would get. The timing fits in nicely with my plan to upgrade in February.
 
I was originally planning to get something in the size of a Penryn, but my E4400 is soooo comfortable right now. 3.2Ghz on stock voltage.....
 
Does the clockspeed of the Q9300 mean they've brought back 1/2 multipliers? I heard mention of that a while back.

7.5 * 333 = 2500.

ive been out of the loop for a while. i remember penryn was supposed to be beastly... from the benchmarks, it looks like a 10% performance increase clock to clock vs conroe. Can anyone verify if I'm thinking correctly? It's not the performance increase we really care about though, it's the overclocking ability of the 45nm die right?

Someone fill me in.

Right !! :D That Q9450 looks good,and I see can see it doing 3.5Ghz passive with my lapped U90i and good tim.
 
Look like I made the right decision to go with Q6600. Q9300 got the same TDP 95W and price as Q6600 but got less Cache. Q9xxx will be more expensive when they are released. You might have to wait for a couple months before you can get Intel price/1000 unit.

My Q6600@3.6GHz will last for a while.

Would be pretty ignorant for them to make 'em more expensive and not have more performance. I'm hoping they are following their current ugrade route. More processing power less power intake.
 
what's the main thing the X38 has that the P35 doesnt? just SLI or what?

personally im surprised SLI is still around in this age of increasing efficiency

Dieshrinks can mean better head room for overclocking. I've heard a rumor about the QX9650 hitting 4.2GHz or so on phase change; apparently with a minor increase in voltage, to the effect of ±.15 volts.

At any rate, smaller manufacturing size means cheaper, faster processors that generate less heat due to less gate leakage. Of course, having a mature manufacturing process helps as well. And when the space between transistors shrinks this also means less voltage is necessary for the semi-conductor to function.

Great news, im upgrading april or may next year

Q9450 is what im gettin now, maybe they ll relase another model but doubt it
x38 looks sweet, and i ll be getting that as well :) no point on being cheap when buying a board for a new CPU

I just hope they r good Oc'ers... hoping to hit at least 3.5 Ghz
 
YES!! I have no problems holding out until 08 to build my new rig. I will take the Q9450.
 
I wonder how those will overclock? I can only assume as good or better than the q6600?
 
I'll hope for the outside chance that the P965 chipset will support these suckers.
 
i'm still getting settled into a decent oc here, give me a year before i get bored with this setup and decide to upgrade....

just doesnt seem like there is going to be a significant or entirely noticeable difference b/c kentsfield and penryn, at least enough to justify spending $3XX+
