kinda disappointed, i thought Penryn would have given a bigger boost, it even ends up losing out in a small number of the tests

Why in the world would they perform the OC test with 800Mhz memory?

I have a feeling they pushed the RAM farther than it could handle rather than the CPU.

my 6420 does 3.2 on stock voltage =p? why would I upgrade? If im going to buy a new cooler, I Could push this thing too, for less $, my disappointment was in the performance gain clock for clock with a Conroe cpu
 
They need to redesign that graphics in the first page.

Well... my G0 Kentsfield does 3195MHz at 1.168V and 3330MHz at 1.216V, so I've pretty much got myself a Penryn, minus the extra 4MB cache and 5-10% clock for clock. :p

do you realize its 460 bus speed w/ 1.15 voltage?

that's 4ghz w/ 9 x multipler ( high end wolfdale) on 1.15 voltage
 
Overall it looks to be about 5-10% faster at 10% less power consumption. Overclocking will undoubtedly be good, but that is not a factor that decides the vast majority of chip sales. The conclusion sums it up quite nicely:

Looks like you need some more multipliers to reach beyond 4ghz since these are 333fsb unless you have crazy mobos that does 600fsb.

Not much an improvement 10-20% because cache size and sse4. I would rather have 266fsb with higher multiplier so we can really see what these chips do.

Well I'm not rich. I can't afford high end crap. Even with 9x multiplier if you don't have a board that can take it 500fsb it won't be worth it for most people. Not to mention you need memory that can handle 500fsb.

I just wish they had 266fsb version of the processor like conroe.
 
Yup, can't go wrong with a 65nm Quad core now...

10 percent was about what I was expecting, just from the die shrink and 50 percent cache increase (which IMO, is not as big a concern for most everyday applications once you go beyond 1 or 2MB per core)

There is one particular instruction that will help boost Divx encoding right away, but thats a highly specialized instruction/app.

Price may be the main factor here, at launch the new 45nm processors might be a little high for some - then falling to what most consumers see as commoditizable 6 months later.
