I saw it somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

I'm most likely going to wait till I get back to school from the holidays, before I build my pc.

Was planning on a e6750.. but I guess if I can get a better performing penryn for under $200, I could wait a extra month after coming back.

Are these reliable? Should I expect inflation? Otherwise, looks like I'm going with the 8400
Should I expect them to be available on the 8th? or before February?
 
that E8500 on an x38 mobo paired with like 4 gigs of ddr2 and a nice vidcard will do good
and wont be that expensive by the time
 
for someone in europe or with euro's , buying these things from the US is not expensive at all...

E8400, p35, 2gb ddr2 800, should hold me off till my next upgrade, due for the next socket type.

Truth. The low multiplier kills its potential. This is also true for the Q9450. The multiplier should be 8*333 by math. So you would need to push 400Mhz FSB just to get 3.2Ghz out of the chip. Assume even that the x38 chipsets, with a very mature bios, can hit 450 FSB. 8*450 = 3.6Ghz.

Now look at the E8500. 9.5x333 = 3.16Ghz; 9.5x450 = 4.27Ghz -- Quite a difference there. Still, if I can get 3.6Ghz out of a Quad, then I'm very happy.

It looks like premium x38 boards can hit at least 500Mhz FSB. This means Q9300, if the chip can handle it, will hit 7.5x500 = 3.75Ghz. Q9450 will do 8x500 = 4.0Ghz and the E8500 will do 9.5x500 = 4.75Ghz. Now imagine the E8500 being pushed to 9.5x550 = 5.225Ghz; anyone think that is possible? I hope we see some OC results by the end of January!
 
E8400 looks like the sweet spot for the dual cores.
Do you think it will go well with a gigabyte ds3R (ddr2)?
