Does anyone know of a way to get through a corporate firewall?

All I really know about their internet security is that they're using St. Bernard Software (and I'm assuming they're using the iPrism).

The ultimate goal of this is to be able to use chat programs which they block. I can't access the webpages of, for example, AIM or any of AIM's international pages (rules out web based chat interfaces).

Also with the actual chat programs, they block the servers and ports, etc. I can't even force them to use 80 or use their auto-sense function thing to find an open connection.

Anyone have any experience getting around this?

No.

This isn't the place to ask about how to get around the firewall at <work/home/school/university>

It's a useless effort probably anyways, since you will be sitting on THIER network, using THIER bandwidth, and going through THIER firewall and THIER router, so they can and will be able to block whatever traffic or ports they want. end of story. want to get on aim to chat with your omgkekeke friends, just go to an internet cafe

Heh. That made me laugh.

But agreeing to consensus.

If i found out that users on my network were trying to get around my FW, you would be soo dead...

Not really you're fault cuz the FAQ dissapeard with the forum upgrade, but discussing ways around security systems is bad juju here.

Yes it is. In most companies that are serious about security you'd be fired. You can also be looking at a lawsuit If your efforts succeeded and you caused harm to the network or facilitated the theft of any confidential information, or even if your efforts failed and you still caused any damage to company property.

People block things for a reason. It's not your network. If you want to be able to do those things, offer to pay for their internet connection and network administration costs. Otherwise, you live by their rules when you use their network...regardless of whether or not it's your personal computer you're using on their network.

Besides that, if it's a properly engineered solution, there is NO way to get around it.

Obviously, you understand that you would likely get fired if they found out.
I would suggest an AOL Instant Messenger capable cell phone as they can't stop you from using your bandwidth. Chances are, port 80 is the only port open and it's probably run through a proxy so it is unlikely to allow anything other than HTTP traffic.

Sorry I couldn't *cough*SOCKS*cough* help... :D

J/K I've tried it before and it is nearly impossible to get SOCKS working if the sys admin doesn't want it to. ;)

As mentioned, we're not here to help you circumvent network limitations imposed by your employer. They have their reasons. If you have a legitimate need, talk to the sysadmin. But I tend to doubt that wanting to use chat clients is going to fly. ;)
