Peltier Cooling

An 80 watt tec CANT cool a CPU and air cant cool a tec. (unless were talking xtreme heatpipe SLK thingey with dual 230+ CFM blowers or something...)

You will turn your P4 into a smoldering hunk of goo.

If you want to use peltiers, get a 226W one from www.dangerden.com, along with a watercooling kit.

Otherwise, go stand in the corner :p

Seriously. That's not worth it man. You won't notice a difference beside saying that you have a peltier.

I'm leaning towards the Swiftech Peltier kits, their units do look mighty impressive.

It would work fine on a video card :D

I was actually considering doing this, removing the heatsink, then adding a copper waterblock and cold plate. Then I realized it would be far cheaper to buy a 172w peltier and make my own power supply, so I dropped that. I just need some more money for any kind of extreme cooling :D

Don't pay that much for it... Get it at newegg.

I got the Thermaltake Subzero 4G last week... It does its job... Its quiet... Thats about it

I wish the one guy who owns one would say something more specific. How about some idle/load temps and the stock/OC speed? Christ.

For $124 you are not going to build yourself a pelt based dangerden setup.

For one you either need a meanwell S320 PS or you need to have a pretty good 550Watt which isn't going to come cheap. The PS alone will cost as much as $100.

I agree, as I would think anyone would...that watercooling a pelt is the best option, but the swiftech hsf+pelt kits do work, and work well if you can deal with the noise of a 80/92mm Tornado. Problem there is you still need the PS, in which case if you are going to spend the cash you might as well go water, because it will perform better.

I would only recommend an air based pelt if you are absolutely afraid of H20.

The TT solution will work, but don't expect to OC your system because you now have a TEC. It's going to perform about as well as an average HSF unit.

I don't think it's worth it to put a peltier on a cpu. You'd be better off using peltier cooling for the gpu or northbridge.

First off, if I wanted a peltier to cool my cpu, I would use watercooling instead of air like this Thermaltake Subzero 4G. With the amount of heat oc'd cpu's are putting out these days (more than 100W for sure) I don't see peltiers as a viable option. I mean a 60-80W peltier would be great for a gpu or northbridge, but for the cpu? You're going to need like a 120W peltier with a beastly psu or an external power supply and good watercooling.

Or a 226w with a custom-made $55 TEC power supply. But whatever sails your ship :)

It's just your statement that peltiers are not a viable option...I mean if you said that thermaltake subzero kit with a pelt isn't a viable option, then I could maybe buy that statement...

of course its all personal opinion, with the exception that my pelt setup is very viable, and keeps my processor well below ambient even though my CPU is at 1.95v.

Hmm. You know, you would probably be able to do that and sell them. Especially if you included a built in relay switch.

I know *I'd* buy one for just that purpose :)

I'm good with electronics, but I don't have the time to tinker with it.

The Thermaltake Subzero kit is not a viable option. Way too underpowered. There :) Your peltier cooling is nice :D

Just about everything ThermalTake makes is all flash and little performance. They haven't had a decent product since the orbs. All bling, no zing...
