My co-workers and I are looking for an IM program that's nothing but quick and dirty messaging without the bells and whistles of the traditional server-based systems.Something we could throw on our network and use instead of having to use our inefficient flesh-sacks in close proximity to one another. Oh, and free is always nice.

Any recommendations?

I believe Trillian has support for server-less chat via the old "Rendezvous" protocol. It's actually called "Bonjour" now though but it works the same.

It should automatically see all LAN computers and there is no server to run.

We're trying to find something more lightweight than Trillian, honestly. Don't happen to know of another option, do you?

Pidgin supports Bonjour too.

But I guess thats not anymore "lightweight" than Trillian. Not sure what's so heavy about Trillian though. Version 5 is pretty lightweight IMO.

Miranda IM I believe is a little lighter then both. Also has a Bonjour plugin.
