According to C|Net, there has been a massive increase of e-mails containing malicious PDF files that could potentially compromise your security.

The e-mails sent in bulk looked like credit card statements, and contained an attachment called 'report.pdf'," its Chief Research Officer Mikko Hypponen said in a statement.

What jerkoff would send PDF files in a e-mail anyway?

I've worked for major banks, financial institutions and government organisations in the UK as an IT contractor and they all use PDF attachments.

Well, I would get highly annoyed if someone sent me a PDF.

Ya PDF is pretty much the standard format for emailing documents in my experience in IT and Real Estate. Mostsy because everyone can open them and you can easily protect them from editing, printing, etc

It think the fact that many people look at PDFs as "safe" attachments, makes this vulnerability pretty dangerous.

Our project management company use a software called Primavera for our scheduling and job/project management. This software cost somewhere in the several thousands of dollars. Since it's a project management company for engineering and constructions and the like, we have to present our results to our clients (the construction company and steel mills), and in order for them to see our result, we have to print them in PDF. Primavera natively saves in XER which only works in Primavera. I very much doubt if other companies would hire us if we force them all to purchase Primavera. Why would they? It's not their job.

No different with CAD engineers. Do you make everyone install AutoSketch to view DWG files that AutoCAD engineers draft up? No, you print them in PDF.

PDF is the standard viewing format and it's here to stay. (all the more reason I'm getting annoyed with Adobe's increasing arrogance with the product)
