potable document files . Anyone know of a FREE program that will allow me to open such files?

I have a ten year old notebook that did not come with acrobat reader and I have not been able to find a free version of it.

Thanks.

Try FoxIt. Small and fast.

The Reader is free, what are you talking about?

Foxit, SumatraPDF, Adobe Reader, and older versions of Adobe Reader.

You must not have looked very hard, or tried the very front page of Adobe.com. However, as linked above, there are lighter, faster alternatives that works just as well.

Foxit has issues with certain .pdf's, and since Adobe Reader 8.1 is just about as fast, I've gone back to Adobe

All versions of acrobat reader are free. It's the creation software that you have to pay for.
