Hey whats up guys im looking at either buying the Sharp zaurus 5500 or the 5600 i have been reading that open zaurus is a bit buggy on the 5600 but the cpu is almost double i just want to hear what people with these pdas have to say

I had a 5500 a while back but replaced it with an ipaq 4355. the 5500 is a cool unique device but doesn't have as much practical application as a good pocket pc device. I'd get an ipaq or something before I got a 5600.

what kind of advantages would the ipaq have over the sharp, i plan on installing openzaurus or gentoo on the 5600 that should give me more options for software on the zaurus

I like the interface of the pocket pc os better. I like the today screen, and the integrated software package of the pocket pc os seems to be more powerful overall.

Also, wifi on the higher end ipaqs is a nice touch.

plus there's still a lot more software for the pocket pc os.

And the zaurus is a little bulkier, and I know the 5500 doesn't have an integrated speaker (stereo) and it lacks a voice recorder. I don't know about the 5600 though.

also, believe it or not, the linux os they use on the zaurus is slower than the pocket pc os.

Not to mention the screen of the 5500 was kinda lackluster, especially compared to the ipaq's screen. Again, I can't really make a statement about the 5600 because I've never used one.

Good luck with whatever you decide to purchase though. I just recommend you read a lot of reviews on both products and go to the store and try both products side by side if you can.
