I'm idling in about the low-mid 40s and hitting load temps (dual SP2004) of 68-70c with a Zalman CNPS9500LED in a Lian Li V1000B II Plus. Runs stable at 3.2ghz (might need a voltage bumb for 3.3+) but is that a bit too high? Using AS Ceramique as well on a P5W DH. I have the NB fan connected which sits right behind the Zalman and my room is pretty cool, not sure of the room temperature but the case is cool when ya touch it. I know this thing is a heat-hound, but is 70c pushing it?

I have the same combo as you. My 805 runs at 54-55c under load (overclocked to 3.6Ghz with 1.4625v). You shouldn't need to use the Asus NB fan. It just gets in the way of the directional flow of air from the Zalman 9500.

Is your board mounted upside down?

Yah it is mounted upside down. Tried 3440 with some increased voltages (1.40) and it throttled like a mofo, not sure if I should adjust anything else. It's very stable @ 3.2ghz @ stock vcore but I'm lookin for 3.5/3.6 myself if possible
