PCWorld VP191b review: average

THG calls 2405FPW crap for games and watching movies while I personally think it's great for both, I personally don't notice the "ghosting" unless I look for it on purpose, in which case I see on my 19" Sony CRT too. ( :eek: Yeah it's weird isn't it? I'm not making things up, I indeed saw trailings when I move objects on the screen at a certain speed.) For movie I think it's great, I do notice the "snow" effect in certain scenes, but in my opinion they are very mild and hard to notice therefore does not bother me at all.

What I'm trying to say is, which review source is credible cannot be judged by someone for you, if the editors at certain magazine/website happen to have the same type of taste you do then their review will most likely be very accurate for you. Until then, trying things out is the only way to tell whether you will like it or not, ESPECIALLY when it comes to things like monitors.
 
I agree with you. The problem I have is that this will be my first LCD purchase and I want it to be as hassle free as possible. I don't want to deal with RMA/restocking fees just so I can get a good LCD. Reading that the VP191b is not that good for graphics is making me hesitant to make a $400+ purchase.

I checked out the monitors at CompUSA and the glossy Sony displays seemed the best in that environment, but there are other external factors involved in a retail store I’m sure.

I don't know where they get that the 191b isn't as good for graphics, this thing looks better than my nice shadow mask crt, which have notoriously good color and sharpness.
 
I dont think human can see "ghosting" or trailing effects on CRT, cause the phosphor lights up only 1ms or less. the fact that vertical refresh rate can go as high as 240Hz or even 350Hz on monochrome should tell some clues. the reason why ordinary CRT monitor dont include this setting is because of heat and the quality component needed--deflection yoke to move the scanning electron beam.

what you see on the CRT is probably the persistence of vision, its the reason why 24fps works in cinema.

btw, i thought VP191 doesnt has a USB hub? atleast mine doesnt.

I was thinking the same thing. PCWorld seems more confused then they usually are.
 
The CNet review is 2003, so it's of the older model with older tech.
The PCWorld review's #1 choice has a glossy (!) screen which I hate with a passion.
Also, seems they're gearing their reviews more towards business users. Their #2 choice uses a 25ms PVA panel, so speed isn't really their main focus.
