What's better... PCI-e or AGP... what's the difference?
(I currently have PCI-e)

can I switch to AGP if I have PCI-e?

well pci-e is newer and is equal to an agp 16x, agp is still the most widely used and currently only goes to 8x I would go with agp cheaper and will be around for a few more years to come

PCI-E X16 is technically much better than AGP 8X since PCI-E has double the bandwidth and some other efficiency enhancements.
But if you compare 2 identical cards, one on agp8x and one on pci-e x16, you would see little to no preformance difference.
but in the future, real fast cards and currently workstation cards will see an advantage.

X16 and X8 are just speed ratings... the first agp was 1X and then there was 2X(twice the speed/bandwidth) and then 4X and 8X.
pci express comes in 1X-16X varieties.
and no, you cannot use an AGP card in a pci express slot.

So I would have to get a new....??? motherboard if I wanted to use AGP VC's?

do you currently have an AGP slotted motherboard? if so, then the answer is obviously no. you wont need a new motherboard to use an AGP video card.

but if you do have an AGP slotted motherboard then you can completely forget about getting a PCI-E video card cuz it isnt gonna happen.

The first sentence assumes that you have a recent AGP-slotted motherboard. If on the other hand you currently have an AGP-slotted motherboard made no later than 1999, you will need a new motherboard and CPU in order to use a current AGP card anyway, since older AGP 2x-only slots are not electrically compatible with the newest AGP 8x cards. And conversely, don't try to put an older, 3.3X AGP 2x-only card into a newer AGP 8x slot.
