what do you guys think about this? (SLI = Scan line interleave. using 2 cards to effectively increase performance. Yes SLI is only one way of doing it. You could do a lot of differant combinations, but SLI is the most recognized term) (there will be 1 4 gig badwidth slot for graphics, however the other slots are still workable)

Its late and its just an idea :D (although agp 8x has 2.1 gigs of bandwidth i think) It would be interesting to see if something could be done. Purely a passing thought.

about the only application i can see for it right now is doubling FSAA performance. were getting close to the point where video cards are cpu limited at 1600*1200, this is not going to change unless someone develops a FPU coprocessor that plugs into a pciE slot or intel/amd gets off there asses and develops cpu's that excel at calculations neccessary for gaming.

Thats something like i was thinking actually. With even the regular pc-e bandwidth, it would be plenty for an extra add on card. The benefits would be increasing the overall bandwidth, less power would be required, upgrades to existing graphics cards, adding new features etc.

Now whether or not it can be marketable i think is a whole other story. But with the complexity of modern gpus i think this is the way we're heading eventually. Basically this would reduce overall r and d costs, either lowering the cost per graphics card, or it would increase their lifespan.
