ok, i know on the AGP versions of the 6-series cards, the cards had different mofsets and the ultra had an extra power connection and all - but in my quest for UE speeds from my GT (does 438/1.16 with the GT bios) i started looking at pictures of the Ultra and the GT... they both appear to have the exact same PCB and power components on the board... so i would assume theyre just binned on demand?

am i missing something here, or would it be safe to flash this thing with an ultra bios with the 1.4v vcore? ive got expierece with flashing cards, so thats not a problem. it has a Zalman vf700-cu cooler on it.

If you flash your 6800GT to UEE speeds, it damn well better be able to do the speeds or you're gonna have an assload of problems. I recommend just flashing to an Ultra BIOS, since your card does Ultra speeds on 1.3v (I'm assuming the PCI-E GT's still run 1.3v). The only different from the Ultra and the UEE BIOS are the clockspeeds, IIRC. That, and the Ultra BIOS has looser memory timings than the GT...which are the same timings found in the UEE BIOS.

thats what im doing.

just flashing with a BFG ultra bois to see if i can hit 450 core with 1.4v

afaik, UEE was never on PCIe

i just dont want to run into problems where hte other components on the card cant handle the 1.4v load, like what happened with the AGP GT's. the cooling is good enough, and the core is good enough, i think. 438 on 1.3v is pretty damn good IMO. i just want more :p

correct me if i am mistaken, i beleve the GT has an 8 layer pcb wile the ultra has a 10 layer pcb which does make alot of difference.

Just from scanning the first 5 or so search results, this does seem to be the case.
a link to google and saying it netted you answers does nothing for me without giving what you searched for.

i got NOTHING. unless you count people comparing PCB's based on what they look like, of course.

please, oh god of google, tell me what you searched for, or give me linkage to your first 5 hits

Searching for 'GT Ultra layer pcb' first result http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=1&id=1528.
The ASUS V9999GE is a rather long card built on a 10-layer PCB and uses high speed DDR3 memory, compared to the six layers for a normal GeForce 6800 and standard DDR memory. The extra layers contribute to a higher manufacturing cost and this is usually only necessary for GeForce 6800 Ultra boards.
6800 vanilla - 6 layers. 6800 ultra - 10 layers.
I dont have the link handy, but I also scanned over another site mentioning the reference design on the GT including an 8-layer pcb.

Overall, massive evidence of high end cards having more layers in the PCB than low end ones from the same series, and with some specific references to 6-series cards. Seems like 8-layer on GT vs 10-layer on Ultra is accurate imho. Flashing the BIOS may still work, however there's a chance that with the voltmod you'll get electrical interference due to the 8-layer PCB.

Thanks!

im probably not gonna flash it. im having problems with the card's temp sensor now, just emailed BFG about it.
