Probally has been asked before but anyhoo. Where can I get a pretty decent guide to the ins and outs of PCI-X. I really haven't caught anything on it yet.

PCI-X is the 64 bit 133/100 Mhz standard.
It gives you 8/6 times the trough put of a standard PCI bus.
It runs at 3.3 volts.

PCI-E is the standard of the new PCI slots.

Pci-x in a nushell:

Not quit as fast on some boards, yet.

Should in the end be faster.

Early adopters may have some bugs to work out.

Early slots will likely be upgraded and revised very quickly.

I think you have PCI-X and PCI-E confused (like a lot of folks). PCI-X is out, stable, fast as hell, and in use today in many, many server platoforms out there. I've been designing PCI-X network cards for three+ years now.....

PCI-E offers other advantages, with raw speed being one of them in the X4 and X16 lane configurations. Also, PCI-E is point to point high speed serial communication, rather than a bused topology.

PCI-X is already in daily use, and will continue to be used heavily in server grade hardware for at least a few more years.
