I'm so tired of people confusing the two all the time, i see it everywhere now.

Sorry, had to rant.
 
One might think that no one except for small minority has even a clue that there exists such a thing as 64-bits PCI, or PCI-X.

Fear the 'Does it have PCI-X?' type of questions :(

PCI-X is for servers(and a bit slower IIRC),
and PCI-Express is for home PCs

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty PCI-X is faster, it at least has more bandwidth... at least compared to the PCI bus that's in most of our systems. Not sure how it compares to PCI Express, though.
 
If I remember correctly, PCI X is 64bit 66MHz.
PCI is 32bit, 33MHz.
PCI E is scalable.

It's 133 MHz base frequency, with two samples per clock cycle (266 MHz) and four samples per cycle (533 MHz). These double and quad data rates were added in the PCI-X 2.0 specification.

he was saying PCI-X was slower than PCI-Express, not that it was slower than vanilla PCI.

I'm pretty sure that PCI-express will be used in servers too for things like gigabit lan.
 
Naw, 64-bit/66 MHz PCI or PCI-X is more than sufficient for this task. There already are a plethora of Gigabit expansion cards for servers/workstations.
