my friend has a compaq desktop with onboard video card. I had an old geforce 2 card that i didnt use so i gave it to him. when we opened up his case, it turned out that he only has PCI slots and no AGP. can you plz recomend the best PCI video card. thanks a lot

Radeon 9100 is probaly the best PCI card you get. I've had one for almost a year and it's served me very well for being a PCI card. Performs decent at medium settings.

Although I'm looking forward to upgrading to a X800 Pro in a few weeks.

Yes that and if you cant fnd any of those then a Geforce 4 mx 440...
Seriously it would do him more good to get a better mobo...

i told him that, but then he'll need around $100 for mobo and $200 for a nice card and thats kinda too much for him

The question is, what is the rest of the system? I might not be worth upgrading the GPU in it...

That was a good link. The NV5600 and the ATI 9200 were about the latest and greatest PCI cards. The ATI 9200 is a passable card. I installed one on a customers old Gateway (onboard video and no AGP) a few months ago.
